Who is responsible for committing funding to the IEP?

The principal holds a key leadership role within a school and is responsible for ensuring that all students' needs are met, including those outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The principal's involvement includes the allocation and commitment of funding necessary to implement the services and supports specified in the IEP. They play a critical role in managing resources and making decisions to support students receiving special education services.

In contrast, while the special education teacher is crucial in developing and implementing the IEP, they do not have the authority to commit funding. The school board generally has the overall responsibility for district-level funding and policy decisions, but they do not manage the specific day-to-day financial commitments regarding services rendered in individual IEP cases. The guidance counselor also plays an essential role in supporting students’ academic and emotional needs, but like the special education teacher, does not have the primary responsibility for committing funding to the IEPs.
